PROJECTS
IONOS has created the conditions for the development of a unique ecosystem of creation and innovation. Universities, Research centers, Agricultural Institutes, Experimental projects departments, Research and Development companies, Producers’ cooperatives are members of the group and are conduits of creation and transfer of knowledge.
EXARCHOS 2020, EXARCHOS 2021, EXARCHOS 2022
The program is a conception and initiative of IONOS with the aim of evaluating the effectiveness of the use of UAVs in the application of bait sprays for the treatment of the olive fly in olive groves of various morphology, compared to the sprays from ground-based applications.
The program is implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Agricultural Development & Food, the Hellenic Mediterranean University, the University of Thessaly, the Institute of Olive Tree, Subtropical Crops and Viticulture, the Regions of Thessaly, Evia, Etoloakarnania, Messinia and Crete, and with ELANKO which provides the pesticide used.
The entire activity was licensed by the Civil Aviation Authority and the Ministry of Rural Development, being the first and at the same time the only one of its kind in the Balkans.
IONEL 2021 and IONEL 2022
A European program which extends to Spain, Italy and Greece, focusing on the needs of rice cultivation.
The purpose of the program is to evaluate the efficacy of herbicide applications by drone, in rice crops, compared to ground applications. The program is already in its 2nd year in collaboration with the companies ELANKO, GOWAN and SDS Biotech K.K and having an experimental license from the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.

ACT PHAST 4.0
The program concerns the use of optical fibers to monitor and count the dispersion of droplets (drift) during agricultural drone spraying operations.
The Technology and Research Foundation (FORTH), the University of Southampton and IONOS are participating in the project, with the support of the Benaki Phyto pathological Institute.
The first test of optical fiber sensors was carried out in September 2021 at the premises of the Technology and Research Foundation in Heraklion, where the connection of the technology of agricultural drones with that of Photonics and optical fibers was put into practice.
In the tests carried out since then in real conditions (on olive trees), modern technology was applied to count the drift rapidly and reliably.

EML TREES 2021
The action concerned the protection of the urban greenery of the city of Thessaloniki and the problems created by the elm leaf beetle, Xanthogaleruca luteola (Chrysomelidae: Coleoptera) for the city’s residents.
This particular beetle causes significant damage to elms. Both the adult beetles and the larvae feed on the trees, causing skeletonization of leaves and defoliation. The insect has more than one generation per year resulting in the development of high populations that degrade urban greenery but also cause nuisance to residents when the beetles enter homes and businesses.
Applications aimed at dealing with the insect, contain entomopathogenic nematodes and chitosan. To combat the beetle, we collaborated with the BIO-INSECTA team, which proposed the application of entomopathogenic nematodes to elm leaves, a suitable solution without burdening the urban environment with harmful substances.
The precision operation was carried out on Stratou Avenue, outside the Vellideo Conference Center using the M6E-X1 agridrone, which provided all the guarantees of flight safety and stability.
